This Year...

I'm not making resolutions. I'm making a list w/goals on them, because lists make me happy.

1. Write two books(I'm a slow writer, so this'll be a hard one).

2. Read out of my comfort zone(tho read good books out of my comfort zone- life's too short to read books that make me want to claw my eyeballs outta my head).

3. Focus less on social media(but I love you guys!) and focus more on getting stuff done(like those two books...).

4. Keep the house up more, so that when I sit down to write I'm not unhappily eyeing the chaos out of the corner of my eye(and so far I'm doing it! A little each day, keeps the messies away).

5. Begin querying in February.

6. Stay positive and believe that dreams do come true!

So that's my list for 2014. What about you all? Is there anything you're hoping to accomplish in the coming year?

  4. Happy New Year, Leandra! Great post! The "keep the house up" bullet point is key for me. Once I'm lost in the writing, I can ignore all kinds of "meanies" — but getting to that point requires some order in my peripheral vision. Perhaps it's the many years of wresting order from the physical chaos that a homeschooling environment can engender. Glorious, but chaos nonetheless. Now, I let things slide because the descent from order to disorder is soooo slow compared to the way it used to be. Sending New Year's hugs to you and yours, and keeping you in my 2014 Prayer List for Writers.

    1. Oh, yeah, kids definitely accelerate the slide! And thank you for the prayers, that means a lot.

  5. What an awesome list! Can we switch lives for a year? That was so clean and organized... Wait, do you I'm with R.T. up there and the glorious chaos of homeschooling. Yup. We pick our battles and pick them carefully. Guess the mess will have to stay. I mean, technically it's not too bad...

    Here's to an amazing 2014!

  10. Happy New Year, Leandra.
I would like the same goals because I agree with yours. I'm a slow writer and find it difficult to keep up with blogging now, but I'll persevere. I need to do more around the house especially decorating. Sometimes it's difficult keeping up with the basics, but I can't stand the kitchen or bathroom becoming germ infested, so I concentrate on those.

    1. It's definitely easier to ignore dust(I do it all the time!) than bathroom & kitchen scuzzies, lol! Here's to us writing a tad faster in 2014!

  11. Good luck with your books this year! I also write slowly, so I feel your pain. I attended this webinar at Writer's Digest by Karen Weisner about productivity and juggling projects to keep from getting burned out. It really helped me. She's prolific. She wrote 30 days to first draft (which I implemented) and my current book should be done this month! Will have taken me about 3 mos of writing to get to first draft, but that is a year sooner than my last one took. I am still amazed. Might be worth checking it out.

    1. Wow, a first draft in 30 days would be amazing!! That would be worth checking out, thanks!

  15. I'm a slow writer too :) My goals include writing one book and reading more!

    1. If there's one downside to writing, it's that it eats away into my reading time. :( Ah, well, it's worth it!

  17. I'm a slow writer, too. MAYBE I can finish this one and complete one more?

I might actually be reading LESS this year. Too early to tell. Re that eyeball problem, I just returned to the library a stack of *four* I couldn't read. :(

Also, #5 is very exciting! :)

  19. sounds good! I do the same. I never benefit from resolutions, so I set goals too. For me, I really want to try and write every day, but also know when to turn it off! I have a bad habit of obsessively overthinking when I write so I need to know when to take breaks and trust my instincts more

    1. Yup, I usually take breaks on the weekend and just chillax! =) You definitely need to to avoid burn out.
