Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 3)

1. How I did on last week's goals: Goal was 5000 words and...I did it!!! Final count was 5,170. It was hard, but I triumphed. It. feels. so. good.

2. My goals for this week: I'm only going for 2, 500. I have the early shift at work this week, as well as working three 11 hour days. I will probably be a zombie by the end of this week.

3. A fav line from my WIP: Freedom would never taste as sweet as it once had, if he isn't there to share it with me.

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week: Laziness & a bit of brain burnout. I very rarely write 5K a week & so when I'd go to pull up Word it felt like I'd just closed it a minute ago, & now I have to write more?! But I'd make myself do it & before I knew it I'd be writing along, getting stuff done.

5. Something I love about my WIP: Definitely the romance in this one. It's coming much easier than my previous story. Though I cannot deny rumors that it is full of cheese.

RSW! is a summer writing intensive. For full details(such as the link list and our wonderful hosts) please view this post here. I hope everyone is having a productive summer so far, in writing & fun!

    1. Me too! I need to try and get to bed early every night this week. But usually when I tell myself that, I find myself up 'til midnight. *sigh*

  2. Congrats on meeting your goal this week, Leandra! I know what you mean about brain burnout. I'm feeling that way a bit too, especially the "I just finished doing this" feeling. Yep. I probably should have set a slightly lower goal for this upcoming week as well. Ah well. Good luck with everything! :D

  4. Yeah! Great job. I'm a little terrified of my own 5k+ goal per week for the remainder of the summer. It's hard to do when you are busy, but definitely worthwhile.

    1. That's a great goal to have set though. With those numbers very week, your story will be done before you know it! Which is the best kind. =)

  6. Nice job with the realistic goals. I think often we get disappointed when we don't factor real life obstacles and plan around them. I'm sure your planning will help you succeed :)

  7. Yay for meeting your goals!

I understand the burnout. It's like all of the info dumped out of the brain, and it needs a bit to refill.

  9. Great questions and great answers! When I feel burned out, I tend to take a trip over to the mall. It helps clear my mind. If there was a beach nearby, I'd be all over that...

    1. Beaches are the best- as long as you pack sunscreen. ;)

  13. Congrats on meeting another week's WIP goal! I think you're right in scaling it down a bit if you anticipate a rather difficult week with work and life. I TOTALLY understand the brain-drain feeling you mentioned. Keep up the great work!

  14. I think someone needs to start a brain burnout support group for writers because there's a lot of that going around this week! I've been fighting the mental fog myself. Nice job on meeting your goal, and I hope you manage to avoid becoming a zombie this week lol!

  17. yay for the romance coming along! I had such trouble in one version of my MS with the romance, axed the love interest (poor guy!) and then the next one flowed so much better. congrats on your goal!

    2. ha!! no nothing that dramatic, I just revised the MS and made a new love interest. I still feel so bad he's gone though! gonna have to bring him back in another MS somehow bc I did love him!

  18. Congrats on reaching your goal, Leandra! Yay!

I will try not to be jealous that you are in your third week of summer when I only got out of school today. I really have no reason to be jealous, since Summer Vacation will now never end for me. As of today, I am retired. (Or unemployed, as my husband likes to tease me.)

I need a day or two to recuperate from all the confusing feels.
Then I am free to write and write and write ... 5k a week sounds like an awesome goal.
As long as it wasn't the stress of teaching that made me creative in the first place. (What if?!?!?)

    1. Nope, I totally don't believe that! If anything, I think you're just going to become even more creative. I mean, if you're worried, you can always just write a side series following Riley just for me...Ha! And tell your husband 'pshaw' for me. ;)

    2. Congrats on your retirement! Now you are off on a new adventure in your life. Enjoy...relax a bit. And write!! yay!!

  19. Fantastic to get 5000 words and you have a job too!! I almost said a real job, but writing is a job too, just not one that earns a lot of cash....yet. Keep writing!!!

    1. It totally is a job! And sometimes feels like more work that my 'real' one. =) But as opposed to the other one, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. So thank you, I will- and you too as well!

  21. 5k is pretty impressive :) But you're right, think you'd be pushing it to repeat it this week with work interfering!
