Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 4)

1. How I did on last week's goals: Win/fail. My goal was 2,500 words and made it to 2,100. But... I did write 600 words on something besides my WIP. A new MG idea that I am SO in LOVE with. So, yeah, win/fail!

2. My goals for this week: None! I know, right? But my husband and I are on vacation this week and the kidlet doesn't get both of us together very often so I plan on just relaxing and having fun. Of course, I hope for some words in there, but we'll see. Though I definitely plan on getting in more reading.

3. A fav line from my WIP: I should be able to tell my boyfriend everything, but then again, he’s not really my boyfriend, is he? Even if he is the boy I love.

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week: Trying to get my word count out within the space of five days.  Usually I have two extra days on the weekend to play catch up with, but not this weekend as we went to St. Louis for a short trip. {P.S. Goats will mob you if you're holding a bottle of milk-- just sayin'!}

5. Something I love about my WIP: Incorporating the longing for freedom. I couldn't imagine being held captive and trying to express this in words has been challenging and rewarding. I'm hoping in revisions to make this aspect come through even stronger.

RSW! is a summer writing intensive hosted by Erin L. Funk, Jaime Morrow, Alison Miller, & Katy Upperman. Visit any of their blogs for a full list of RSW! participants. Happy summer & happy writing!

    1. Thanks! I bought a small pack of fire works at the grocery store, so tonight after going winging(what my 2yo calls swinging) I think we'll light them. That should start the week off right. =)

  6. Enjoy your vacation! And 2100 words is better than 0. Go you!

  7. It always makes me laugh when people don't meet their goals because another story idea weaseled its way in there. That's certainly a whole lot better than being distracted by TV or social media or anything like that! The great thing about writing is that often one idea just spawns another, so yay for awesome MG distractions! So glad to hear you're in love with this new idea! Enjoy your vacation this week!

    1. Writing is such a fickle wee beastie, isn't it? =) And yes, so in love. It's like this happy place I just like to go hang out in. And I've really been wanting an MG idea that grabs me and doesn't let go, and this feels like it!

  8. Sounds like mostly a win to me. Clarifying another idea is working. Writing on another project is working. It is all good!

    1. Yup, I'm pretty happy with my win/fail, heh. Though, shoo, I need to get motivated to do something this week. Besides read two books in one day, like I did today. =)

  10. Yay for vacation! And I think deviating to a new idea actually keeps the creative juices flowing for your current WIP, so don't be bothered by that. =) Have a great week!

  11. Great favorite line! And I don't think your word count is a fail at all. You got the word count. So what if 600 of it was for an MG book. Still counts in my book. :)

  12. Enjoy your vacation -- and great job on all the words, even if they weren't on the same project!
I'm trying to get in as many words as I can this week, since I have relatives flying in to stay with me starting on Friday. I won't get any writing done while they are here.

    1. I think giving myself no goal this week might not have been a good thing...I haven't written a thing! But it has been a nice break, and I'm getting more reading in, which I love.

    1. It really is, especially w/the zoo being free! And Grant's Farms wasn't too bad(where we saw the baby goats), you just had to pay to park, and then the attractions inside were pretty minimal.

    2. Hey Leandra,

I'm a big admirer of you guys who do a word count. Heck, I start counting my words and get sidetracked. Then I have to start counting all over again. Good grief. Acronym alert! WIP? Writers Idolising Publishers? MG? An old British sports car? LOL

      Happy holiday time, Leandra.

      Gary :)

    3. Ha on your first acronym, and whoosh! Over-my-head on the second. ;) Thanks, tomorrow we're doing a bookstore excursion, yay!
