Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 7)

1. How I did on last week's goals: Goal was 3000. I made 2,900 on my WIP. And then on a short story and a MG I wrote a combined amount of 1,860. {So total: 4760} Which reminds me! The short I'm working on is for this anthology. If any of you have a short sci-fi story in you featuring a female protagonist, you might want to check it out. It's for a good cause!

2. My goals for this week: 2, 500 wordy-words.

3. A fav line from my WIP: This comes from my MG:

Their apartment bordered the parking lot and she wove past dented minivans, trucks with cans littering the bed, and endless cars in candy colors.

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week: A big ol' lack of motivation. Most of my writing on my WIP got done on Sunday as I was desperately cramming to try and hit my goal.

5. Something I love about my WIP: Heh, right now, not much. Ask me again next week! ;)

RSW! is a summer writing intensive hosted by Erin L. FunkJaime MorrowAlison Miller, & Katy Upperman. Visit any of these lovely ladies' blogs for a full list of RSW! participants. Have a great week of writing everyone!

  1. Hooray for reaching your word count! I definitely feel the lack of motivation as well. The anthology sounds cool, I'll have to see if I can come up with a sci-fi story.

  2. Well you're way ahead of me in word count. My word count is zilch on my wip. Keep up the good work!

    1. Sometimes a break is just what you need to come back strong w/all the words though. =)

  3. Great job with the word count! I put in 5000 words last week. I just wished I liked them more. ;)
Thanks again for the Shannon Hale quote about shoveling sand into the box. It made me feel better, and I also shared it with a CP who was also struggling last week!

  4. Hey, it doesn't matter when you get that word count down (Monday or Sunday) as long as you get it. :)

    1. Thank you! I'm having fun w/it so far. I've not wrote sci-fi before so I'm just totally making up stuff when it comes to the tech aspect. As for it making sense...dunno know about that! =)

  6. My motivation was the pits this week too, so you're not alone. I blame summer. Good job surpassing your goal all the same! I really like the line you shared from your WiP too, especially the candy-colored cars. Hope this week is super productive and that we can both reclaim that elusive motivation!

    1. Thanks, Patsy! Even though it wasn't all on my main WIP, I'm ok w/that. I've decided that I'll probably go back and forth between working on projects- it helps me not get burnt out. Keeps it fresh! *grin*

  8. That anthology is a great idea! Good luck working on your short story for it! Congrats on meeting your goals and I hope it's a bit easier to find that drive to write this coming week! :)

    1. As do I! And I am excited about the anthology. It's nice to think I can complete a short in a lot quicker time than a whole novel!

  9. Sounds like you're doing great on your goals, even if you have to do the Sunday cram to get there!

  10. Drove down through Carolina Beach the other day and saw all these houses painted in so many different colors. I just wanted to write about it. And now you've reminded me of that with your candy cars! :)

Also, congrats on all the words! And I have full confidence you'll find something to love about the WiP! Good luck this week!

    1. I've seen pics of houses like that. I love them! They(and my cars) make me think of the glass jars of candy you find in candy shoppes. Also, I just had to write 'shoppes' like that, lol!

  11. I love your blog header, Leandra. :-) I've been struggling with lack of motivation a bit as well. Here's hoping we're both able to get back on the ball. Have a wonderful week!

    1. Aw, thanks! I love the whimsical, pencil scribbled feel to it. And it's nice to know I'm not the only one suffering from a lack of the big M. =)

    1. Thanks, Beth! Just like I like my candles to smell like food, I like my writing to have frequent food references, lol! Hmm...which makes me wonder- do I put more of them in there if I'm hungry while I'm writing? ;)

  14. Hello Leandra!! Happy Tuesday. I've also been experiencing a lack of motivation lately. I blame it on a lack of coffee...

    1. Yup, that would probably do it! =) Though me for it'd be a lack of Diet Coke, heh.

  20. Haha! What happened to the love list for your WIP?! You need to pull that sucker out and pore over it. I still need to make one for mine...

    1. That is a good idea, Karyne! And that love list is for a different WIP(that I haven't touched in so long that it's not really a WIP...) so I should totally do a love list for this WIP to help get my rear in gear. And are you confused yet, lol?

  21. Hey Leandra,

Oh my, here we go again. Acronym alert! :) WIP? MG? MG, is a an old British sports car. Now, you remember. LOL? WTF? Writers Trying Fiction?

Kudos to you for counting all those words. I always get stuck about halfway through and have to start counting them all over again. My fingers and toes are aching!

You do very well with your goals. High five, y'all.

    Gary :)
