Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 8)

1. How I did on last week's goals: Great! I set my word count for 2,500 and made it to 7000.

2. My goals for this week: To try and focus more on my YA WIP, Chain Gang. The MG and the short are fun, but I really want to be finished w/Chain Gang by the end of August. Totally doable if I can just focus and stop letting an apartment complex and a space station pull me away(settings for the MG and short).

3. A fav line from my WIP: Lets go w/the sci-fi short this week:
The boy's hair was on the unkempt side and hid the neuro-transmitter at the base of his skull quite beautifully. Mindful of his injuries, Viala worked with careful fingers.

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week: I rewrote the same scene in Chain Gang three times. Frustrating! But I've finally gotten it sorted and I'm about ready to segue way into a scene I'm super excited about. Hot boys being protective for the win!

5. Something I love about my WIP: Still feeling the love for my MG so much stronger right now. And the things I'm currently loving in it are numerous. So this week I'll go with: Twins! One snarky and one sweet. And I might or might not have posted this pic of them on my secret storyboard on Pinterest...

Okay, yes I did!

And I'm also so in love w/this Mary Oliver quote I pinned, which plays a special part in my MG.

  4. I'm loving how your MG sounds!! isn't it the best when you just feel that pull for a MS, and you find yourself constantly thinking about it? :) And congrats on so many words!

    1. It is the best! And it's doing that so much to me lately. I just sorta feel like I'm along for the ride. Though at some point, I'm sure it's gonna start turning into work. Boo. ;)

  7. I love that Mary Oliver quote every time I see it. She has some others in that same vein that really resonate with me too. Wow! Talk about blowing your word count goal right out of the water! Good job, Leandra! I'm really hoping my productivity will climb once I'm back from this trip I'm going on. I could use a good 7000 word week! Oh, and I love the twins thing too. I have twins in my YA sci-fi, only it's a boy/girl pairing. Hope you have another productive week! :D

    1. I bet you'll feel nice and inspired when you come back! Being away can do that for you. Twins are just so neat- whenever I see them out in real life I probably look like a creeper b/c I'm just so fascinated! =)

  8. Good grief, I don't know how you can bounce between so many ideas! I've decided I can only handle one project at a time. Maybe someday I'll have your brilliant multi-tasking skills, but for now, I'm a one-project woman! And amazing word count! I'm so jealous!

    1. I think it's more like a way for me to ignore slogging through my YA wip, ha! So I'm less of a multi-tasker and more of a good distractioner. Did I just make up a new word- I believe I did! ;)

  9. Maybe I should start working on multiple projects, because boy, my WIP and I are not in love with each other right now! I wrote a total of 1 chapter last week -- 2000 words. That's it.

But I am also sad and lonely b/c my husband is on an extra long business trip. I really don't feel very creative when he is far away. :(

  13. I'm intrigued by the lines you shared. My WIP involves brain implants on the back of the neck and your character's neuro-transmitter is in the same realm. Good stuff! Also, hot boys being protective? A big, huge yes on that one! Have fun with this scene you're super excited about and I hope the words flow just as well this week! :)

    1. Neat! Though this is the first sci-fi I've attempted, and I am way out of my depth when it comes to all the techno jargon. I'm sort of just sticking in things that sound smart and hoping they make sense! =D

    1. I use the secret story boards, Anna, and pin pictures that go along w/my wips. For my MG, I've pinned the twins, kites, peanut butter cookies, and holly berries- which all are in my story. The visuals totally help get me in the mood to write! And I use the secret ones just b/c it's kind of personal to me- plus I don't want my friends and family to think I'm nuts. ;)
