YA Pics & Mugs & Books

I love when I come across neat bookish things on the Internet. And one of the neatest I recently discovered is The Real Fauxtograhper. Margot Wood takes pictures inspired by YA books. Ahhh! How cool is that? Besides the fantastic pictures she takes, she talks about what she had to buy in order to create the scene, and sometimes the exact line that inspired her.

Code Name Verity, originally uploaded by margotwood.

I've been meaning to read CODE NAME VERITY as I've heard nothing but raving about this book, but after seeing this pic-- yeah, totally going to be reading it soon.

Across The Universe, originally uploaded by margotwood.

Now, I have read ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and think this captures the cryogenically freezing required to be shipped into space absolutely perfectly. And reading how Margot achieved this affect was pretty cool too.

Tiger Lily, originally uploaded by margotwood.

A gorgeous and fierce interpretation of Tiger Lily, from TIGER LILY. There are many more pics inspired by YA books on Margot's website. And I, for one, can't wait to see what Margot does next!

As for another fun bookish thing I enjoy, that would be mug & book combos. I came across this on Erin L. Funk's blog and was just totally charmed by it. See, see!

I love this creative idea of mixing two comforts(reading and hot beverages) and decided to try my hand at it. I only own two mugs, matching yellow Longaberger ones. Though not nearly as cool as Erin's matches, here's mine:

I hope you all enjoyed these two bookish features I stumbled across. If anyone has any that they enjoy, feel free to hit me up a w/a link in the comments.  And lastly, to all of you who celebrate Labor Day, I hope it's full of fun, family, & good eats!

    1. Well, I can imagine one only has so much cabinet space. ;) Yes, the cryogenics is awesome, especially when you read what she used to achieve that frosted glass look. Crazy!

  7. So fun! I loved the photo - had to go check out the link too. In addition to the ones you posted, I really loved the Under the Never Sky photos. Such a cool idea!! And the mug/book match-ups were great. I own a ton of mugs & never thought of this. It would be a really fun idea for a giveaway some time! :-)

  8. Oh, you must read Code Name Verity! For awhile, I admit, I resented the book because it came out a few months ahead of my book, in which my main character was named Verity -- and I felt attached to that name. But I finally broke down and read it ... and then I just broke down. That novel floored me. Crushed me. Broke my heart.

Um, there were also some long boring parts about planes I skipped over, as illustrated in the hideous paperback cover. Ignore that. Keep reading.

    1. Haha, good to know! I'm a little scared to read this honestly, b/c I've heard a lot of ppl have had that crushed reaction. Which I suppose is the hallmark of a great book. =)

  11. Thanks for putting a smile on my face! You'll love CNV -- smart and beautiful. Margot could be a book designer! I'm having a cup of tea in my orange mug, which would go perfectly with the imagined cover of my YA contemp :)

  15. Oh my goodness, I love that photo blog!! Honestly just scrolled through it for ages :) Thanks for the lead! And mugs and books--what's better than that? But how can you only own two mugs? I must ask. I swear mine multiply in my shelves!

    1. Haha! I've never had many, and have gotten rid of a few over the years at garage sells. I love looking at mugs in the store, but I dunno, I just don't buy them. I've been thinking of putting some open shelving in my kitchen and then I might buy some more, b/c how cute would they be sitting out where you could see them?

  18. So awesome! Thanks for sharing those, Leandra. Seriously love here. I haven't had anyone make fan art over my books, but I did have someone approach us about doing all kinds of spec photography about my musical. Talk about flattery. It was epic.
