My Critique Partner's Cover!!!

Today I get to share with you the cover of my critique partner's book, GRUNGE GODS AND GRAVEYARDS. I'm pretty sure that besides her, I was most excited about getting to see this baby. Yup, move on over, Bob, you get to be third excited- or maybe fourth, after her mom. =) So let me stop rambling for a sec and let you see the purdiness.

SQUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Okay, squeeing aside, lets get down to business here. First, there's the misty element to the artwork, giving it a definite ghost tale feel. Next, one of my fav cover elements- silhouettes! Do I ever love my silhouettes. And pay close attention to Lainey here on the cover: she's wearing headphones and is holding some type of CD player. Perfect for a novel set in 1996 about a music-loving girl.

Then there's the gravestones- spooky! And the font which just looks rockerish, with the added bonus of the pops of red. Plus, the tag line? The word 'tethered' is a perfect word for evoking a ghostly longing to still be a part of the living world. And last but not least, there's Kimberly's name at the bottom. Lookin' good, my friend, lookin' good.

So here's where I would normally post the blurb. But guess what? I'm hoping you'll just bop on over to GG&G's Goodreads page where you can read all about Lainey and Danny. It'd be stupendously awesome if you'd help get them out into the world by marking GG&G to read. Also, the very last line of the blurb is just exquisite and makes me all swoony. *siiigh* =)

Office Reveal

Huzzah! After working on it for far too long... I'm done! Here it is:

The view from the doorway.

This is my desk, looking a little weird w/out handles. I bought an older desk for the character, and the price I'm paying for character is that I can't find different handles to fit. When summer comes I'm going to take the original ones outside and paint them white. Anyhoo, one of my fav things in my office is the chandelier silhouette. It reminds me of growing up reading Regency Romances. I always adored the ballroom scenes- the sparking chandeliers, the hothouse flowers, champagne fountains, the fancy-dressed lords and ladies. Next is my inspiration board, which is a mish mash of WIP inspirations and swag I've received. Also, do you see my chevron light switch plate? So cute!

I love this lamp. The rosettes are so girly! And, of course, there's my mason jars, which are a decorating godsend. They can be used for SO much. Just look on Pinterest!

This is my fav pic of the hubs and kidlet from when he was born. It was their official meet and greet, the kidlet having just been all cleaned up. The hubs wasn't too keen on the slimy version... ;)

This is the middle drawer, which I was able to replace the knobs on since they're single holes. I loved these bicycles as soon as I laid eyes on them. And this is the contact paper I lined all the drawers with.

Here's a full length shot of the desk. One thing that really sold me on it was the curving top. It makes resting your arms on it much more comfy when you don't have a hard edge biting into you.

Here's some of my ampersands, and another of my fav decorating items: glass jars w/tops. I'd buy out Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx's selection if I had the room... and money!

From top to bottom: a grey ampersand, ceramic fox, spray painted deer antler, fav pic of kidlet when he was smaller, an L, a very small origami ceramic swan, a ceramic French Bull Dog{that's actually a piggy bank that I got at the Dollar Store- score!}, and a fake plant.

Wooden block that says Make It Happen, another ampersand, ceramic horse head, a white mouse, candle holder w/a beetle on it{not necessarily a bug fan, but he just spoke to me...and was on sale}, and a yarn wrapped hippo.

A ceramic quail, frame w/scrapbook paper, fake plant, ceramic parrot, and one more ampersand.

On top of the third bookcase, bowls and the other half of my deer antler pair. I knew I wanted deer antlers in my office as they're another childhood reminder. My grandpa was an avid deer hunter, and in their living room was a deer head and a long row of mounted antlers. And Grandpa had a story to go w/every one of them... =) And these antlers are actually from him. Dunno what he'd think about me spray painting them!

And last but not least, my bee trashcan.

So there you have it: my office! I love having a space that's dedicated to my two passions: reading and writing. For those who are curious about the backs of my bookcases, I cut foam board to size and covered them in fabric. Unfortunately, I ran out of board and actually have the last two bottom rows of the shelves to cover yet. But, man, was it ever a pain to do, so I might just ignore those rows and call it finished anyway. Hope you all enjoyed the breakdown of my office!

Want To Win an ARC of The Eighth Day?!

A few months ago, I saw on Dianne Salerni's blog that her publisher was looking for people to send ARCs of The Eighth Day too. I excitedly jumped at the chance and submitted my info. Once I got it, I read it in one day and later posted a review here on my blog. Imagine my surprise when a few weeks ago I got an email from Goodreads saying I'd won an ARC in their giveaway! One that I'd completely forgotten about entering when I'd first marked TED to read.

I'm now the proud owner of two TED ARCs. Being a greedy bibliophile, I'm a bit tempted to sit them side by side on my bookshelf and murmur things like, "Aren't you just so pretty!" But that would be creepy and weird. And wrong, as I need to send off this second ARC baby to be enjoyed by someone else who can then do their part to let the world know how fantastic this book is.

So if you'd like to win, just leave a comment and you'll be entered for the drawing. Also, Dianne has awesomely added to this giveaway by letting me know she'll send some temporary tattoos(of family crests that are found in TED- and that were designed by her daughter) to the winner as well. Awesomesauce! The giveaway will be open for four days, w/the winner announced on Sunday, Feb. 16th. All that I ask is that you mark TED to read on Goodreads(if you have already, fantastic!), and follow Dianne on any(or all!) of the following social media links below:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DianneKSalerni
Twitter: https://twitter.com/diannesalerni

And in the comments, feel free to answer this question: If you woke up one morning and the world was empty of people{which happens in TED}, what would you do? Hunker in your house? Drive madly about? Eat up all your food instead of rationing it? {that would be me...} Though please note you don't have to answer this prompt to be entered in the drawing. Just thought it'd be fun to read some of your answers. Your comment can simply be- I WANT THIS BOOK!!!

Because trust me, you do.

So here's the question: If you lived in a society where arranged marriages were a la mode, whom would you beg your parents to set you up with? (Literary characters and celebrities welcomed.)

Okay, so I went in to look at my bookshelves to get an answer to this question. {B/c sometimes my brain needs visual prompting} And I soon as I saw The Raven Boys, the sweet and exasperating Gansey came to mind, and the 16 yr.old girl in me squealed- 'Him! Him!' The first quality that I love about Gansey is that he's so kind. He takes care of his brood of friends like a mother hen.

And once we were married, if I was ever sick w/the flu, I'm sure he'd bring me glasses of Sprite and hover in concern outside the bathroom as I threw up. Secondly, he's above his upbringing of having only the best by driving a crappy car that he's fondly named The Pig. I think that shows character...or maybe just stubbornness. (uh-oh) And lastly, he's good-looking and rich. Hello, awesome vacations!

Gansey is the second boy on the left.

Hearts and Roses and Blitzes- Oh, My!

For my February roundup of cover love, it was a no brainer to go with hearts and roses. So without further ado, here's what caught my eye for this month of sappy cards and cheap chocolates. ;)

The blue and red go so well together, and I like the sorta sloppy, watercolor-ish heart.

Love her red shoes, plus those grassy, stone steps are such a cool background.

Bestest. Beauty and the Beast. Retelling. Ever.

I like how heartbeat spikes were incorporated into the title. Smart thinking!

Cute...and disturbing...

Sunny day on a sailboat? 'Nuff said.

For those of you who like your Valentine's Day to be a little more hardcore. ;)
A fav childhood series- such a cutie w/his ears and glasses.

Gorgeous white rose!

This book is waiting for me on my Nook- and is also written by a Query Tracker chum! Anyone who's intrigued by this awesome heart(and a London, 1861 setting- ooh!) can find more about it here: Goodreads, B&N, or Amazon.

Now on to the blitz part of this post. As some of you probably know(and participated in- thank you!) I was blitzed last week. It was so much fun! As a blogger, I always get excited when I see a new comment, and having 100 plus more was a blast. If you'd like to join in the fun, then simply click on the Blog Blitz button(found towards the end of my sidebar on the right). You'll be directed to DL Hammon's blog, the creator of the Blog Blitz. To join, you just add your name to the list, and once a week you'll get an email on who we'll be blitzing that day. Easy peasey!
