Odds & Ends on a Tuesday

(source)
Let's chat, shall we? One, can you believe February is almost gone? Which means March is almost here, which is bringing two fun events for me: the IN SCBWI conference, and my son's 3rd birthday party.

I've been hanging onto a Kohl's gift card to buy new clothes for the conference. I love having new stuff to wear to something I've been anticipating attending. Also, you know what else I'm really looking forward to at the conference (besides hanging out with writing people)? This is going to sound really dumb but...toast. Yup. Breakfast.

Last year I had the breakfast buffet, but nothing looked that good (excitable nerves maybe?) even though they had waffles and pastries and all kinds of stuff. I just ended up eating some toast and jelly, and it was yummy. So I can't wait to wake up Sat (at the crack of dawn, from what the conference schedule looks like) and get me a Diet Coke and toast.

But back to the clothes. Here's a light sweater I'm thinking of ordering online through Kohl's. I'm just waiting to see if they have any special promos this weekend I can use to save a few bucks.

As for the birthday party, it has been established that the theme will be robots. Or, as the kidlet says, 'bobots'. I'm having fun planning the colors, and the menu, and how the table will be set up. After reading and writing, party planning is my favorite thing to do. I'm also planning on getting some ice cream from Baskin Robbins to go with the cake I'm making. I LOVE Baskin Robbin's ice cream, it's the BEST.

How about you all? Anything you're looking forward to in the coming months? Like spring? =)

  1. Cute sweater! Your upcoming events sound wonderful--enjoy the robots and the conference (and Happy Birthday to your little guy). You guessed it, I'm mostly looking forward to spring!

  2. Hey, I had a piece of toast for an afternoon snack the other day, so no toast judgement here. And it sounds like the birthday party will be a lot of fun!
If nothing better shows up, I just got a Kohl's coupon for 15% off, the code is TAKE15. I'm still trying to figure out what I want :)

  5. Super adorable sweater! And I can't wait for spring, as in, can it be today?? :) Other than that, March is a potentially big month in these parts with job stuff, so I'm both excited and so nervous. Have fun party planning--I remember last years and was so impressed!

    1. Thanks! I'm hoping this one turns out good, too. Or at least no birthday melt-downs. From either of us! =)

  6. Bobots are too cute. I'm looking forward to warmer weather ... We're having a holiday today due to freezing rain and it's lovely to have sports canceled and have a day at home but it's nearly the end of Feb and I live in Charleston and I expect better weather. It's usually perfect, in the 70s and without the bugs! So, I'm really missing it.

    1. I would miss weather like that too! What's the point of living in the south if it's not terrific weather. ;) (ok, besides gorgeous country & wonderful food)

  7. I'm sure you'll have trouble finding all the party favors you need for a robot birthday party.

    1. I hope you meant 'no', lol! I'm more into making alot of what I need anyway. =) Like the robot cutouts for the cake, I'm planning on making them out of construction paper.

  8. Search for coupon codes online. When you order online from Kohl's you can combine coupon codes. I saved a bunch of money on my new bar stools doing that. I wish I was attending a conference next month. I'd love to.

My daughter's birthday party is this Saturday. Isn't fun planning these parties? I'm sure your son will have a blast.

  10. Toast is a great any time food isn't it? I like mine well done and cooled in a toast rack so it goes crispy. How do you like yours? Love the sweater, enjoy your new purchases and the conference. It sounds fabulous.

  13. Well, as you know, our boys share a birthday and Benny wants a Paw Patrol theme. All that means is my mom will get him a Wegmans cake with Rocky on it and I'll get him a jazzy new Paw Patrol shirt and reusing the Disney Cars decorations. Cuz that's how we roll in the G house.

    Have fun at your conference!

    1. Lol! Whatever works, and I'm sure he'll be thrilled w/the cake. I thought I might have seen Paw Patrol decorations in the party aisle at Wal-Mart. Or maybe that was Bubble Guppies... They all run together after awhile!

I love Baskin Robbins ice cream - my favorite is peanut butter and chocolate. :)

  16. ooh where do I begin?! I LOVE that shirt..Kohls is such a lifesaver...I get so many cute things for such an awesome price. And the stuff is really nice quality. I do well at Target too, but Kohls has better savings! Also, I love toast too, and could basically eat it all day. I just had my two pieces of seedless rye with butter for breakfast, and I have fresh cinnamon raisin bakery bread for later. happy 3rd to the kidlet! :)

  17. Cute sweater. Do you know how long it's been since I debating buying a sweater? (Try 6+ years.)

    Bobots... How cute.

I'm excited to hear about your conference, but I won't be attending anything like that for a while. Three weeks to go! Yay! Then life changes for a long, long time.

  19. I love that sweater, Leandra! Really cute! I also love toast -- right now, my toast of choice is with peanut butter and bananas, and if I'm feeling a little decadent, I stick chocolate chips in the bananas...lol

I hope your son has a great birthday party. Enjoy him while he's little because they grow up way too fast.

Have fun at the conference, and oh yes, goodness, spring can't get here fast enough. ;)

  20. I thought about buying that sweater!!! We have the same taste. I bought a light one from Kohl's that had an ice skate on it...wore it once and my husband started the dryer on high heat to get something in with it dry faster--so it shrunk. :-(

  21. That sweater is so cute! And I think it's awesome that you're so excited about toast. Some things are just awesome like that. When I was on tour with a children's theatre company, I always got excited when the breakfast included hard boiled eggs and bagels. Toasted bagel, cream cheese, sliced hard boiled egg, salt & pepper. Yummy, protein, and portable! It's the little things in life. :-)

  22. Cute sweater! Kohl's was my shopping destination of choice when I bought clothes for my conference in September. Happy shopping! And enjoy that conference (and toast)—can't wait to hear all about it!
