Share to Win a Brave New Girls Prize Pack! #goSTEMgirls

From now until 2.29.16, if you share a pic of your favorite female engineer/scientist/etc., you can win a prize pack. And you can enter 3xs a day! I'll be honest, I have no idea what a CanaKit Raspberry Pi Quick-Start is (next stop, Google!), but that Kaylee Frye figurine is too cute. =)

As for me, I'd like to share a pic of Nellie Bly. I first remember reading about her as a small tot. My mother bought us a series of books that were about historical figures, and told in a story book format w/illustrations (I wish I could remember what they were called, we had so many of them). I was beyond impressed with Nellie. Especially when she went into that mental institution, yikes!

Nellie Bly, was an American journalist. She was also a writer, industrialist, inventor, and a charity worker who was widely known for her record-breaking trip around the world in 72 days, in emulation of Jules Verne's fictional character Phileas Fogg, and an expose in which she faked insanity to study a mental institution from within. She was a pioneer in her field, and launched a new kind of investigative journalism. (Wiki link)

  2. What a terrific contest! Unfortunately, I'm not a brave new girl; I'm more of a semi-brave old broad. :) Even so, I will be blogging about some pretty amazing gals next month. You may enjoy those posts.

It is way cool that your mom bought you such a terrific series of books.

Nice to meet you. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Not to mention signing on as a new follower. (Oh, wait! I just DID mention it!) My turn to return the favor. Count me in as your newest groupie.

  3. Oops. Darn, guess I won't be signing in as a new groupie, after all. Not working. I think it's because of the google friend connection stuff. :(

  5. What a great idea for a giveaway. I honestly didn't know that much about Nellie Bly but what an amazing woman! I love reading about strong women, especially those in the past who must have been faced with so many obstacles.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog - it's great to meet you!

  6. Funny you should pick Nellie Bly -- I wanted to be a journalist when I was a kid so she was a source of inspiration to me. I also had to Google Raspberry Pi.

  7. Nellie Bly sounds fascinating and her pretty picture seems so contemporary-looking to me, compared to most photographs from that generation.
