Ready. Set. Write! (Week 12)

Ready.Set.Write! is a summer writing intensive hosted by Jaime Morrow, Alison Miller, Katy Upperman,Erin Funk, and Elodie Nowodazkij. Every Monday participants share how they're doing in reaching their goals for the summer. To see a full list of participants, go here.

1. How I did on last week's goals:

{To make a longer note of the 'thanks, guys' (I was running out of video time), I'd like to tell everyone I appreciate all the support as I drafted my WiP this summer, much appreciated!!}

2. My goals for this week: To write 500 words on my new WiP, and from my critique partner's notes, get in at least 40 pages of revisions on my near-future thriller.

3. A fav line from my story:

“This is Brownie,” I explain. “My new mule.”
Shane’s lips twitch. “Brownie. You do have a thing for food names, don’t you?”
“Yup. Kind of like I have a thing for restaurant owners. And necromancer crew leaders.”

4. The biggest challenge I faced this week: I experienced one of those wonderful life changes (not marriage, divorce, or a new baby, lol!) and so the stress kind of threw me for a loop. But I didn't want to let it derail me from my goal of finishing, so I didn't. (Except stress eating? Good-bye, donuts!) Oh, and another challenge? The h key on my super old computer broke. It's now bare of a key and just the electrical board, and I have to press very firmly on it to get an h. Argh.

5. Something I love about my WiP:  Need I say it again? That it's done!!!  Weell...this draft anyway, but that first major hurdle is out of the way, and that feels wonderful.

  1. Congratulations on getting the first draft completed! I always feel such a relief. As for my WIP got up this morning and worked an hour on 2 chapter revisions. I actually love this part.

Love the idea of Ready, Set, Write! Will go use the link you gave. Good Luck starting revisions!

    2. Yes, it is a load off the shoulders. Until you look at all the work that needs done, and *oof* here comes another load! But I'm just borrowing tomorrow's troubles, aren't I? ;) Thanks, Catherine!

  4. Glad the draft is done! Hope you don't have a lot of characters whose names begin with H.

  5. Yay! Congrats on getting the draft done! My comma key has actually been like that for a while (although I don't have to press down too hard for it to work). I could try and replace it, but I'm kinda used to it now.

    1. Oh no, the comma key! I'd be in trouble there, b/c I love my comma key. ;)

"delicious pastries and fire" haha I died, you are adorable!! :) I am SO SUPER PROUD OF AND HAPPY FOR YOU!!! and I am a firm believer in celebrating at every stage...you have to, since those big *pow* moments are really far and few between. so sorry to hear about the stress, though, I hope things get better! 8. Woohoo! Congrats on finishing your ms! Boy did you whip through that first draft in record time! Love the video (BTW you hair is totally cute in it) and you deserve every donut on that plate after working so hard. 1. Thanks!! That is the first successful braid I've managed to incorporate into an up do. They usually turn out all bumpy, so I'm pretty happy w/it. =)

    1. F & H. They're both in the same row, wonder if this is some kind of keyboard conspiracy...

  10. Aw, delicious pastries and fire! Haha, that is awesome. Congrats on finishing the draft so quickly! Definitely nice to celebrate all the milestones along the way. Also, maybe losing your H key is the universe telling you to lose any word with an H in it? Eh. Who needs H, anyway?

Good luck on your goals this week and I hope it's a little less stressful!

  12. Yay, yay, yay! Huge congrats on finishing the draft! (That video was adorable, by the way!) So glad you are celebrating that achievement. I'm sorry about your stress (I saw your comment on my blog and will respond there shortly), but seriously proud of you for pushing through. I hope this week is better and less stressful. I'd love to read it whenever you are ready to share (if you want!).

  13. Hmm, a draft with no Hs might be in order. That will test your writing skills. ;) Seriously though, I hope you get it fixed. Congrats on finishing your draft.

  14. How fun to SEE you and congratulations on finishing! I can't imagine ever writing a book that fast. Missing the 'h' key would really slow me down, hope there's an easy way to fix it. Like maybe replacing it with a little-used key, such as the slash key?

  15. Yay! Love your little celebration because yes, you earned it! Three months and 7 days is super fast too. And losing the h key would be a real pain.

  17. Congratulations on finishing your draft! ^_^ I had similar problems with the "e" key falling off my old laptop. Good job I replaced it quickly, because that would have made writing difficult. Have a great week! :)
